James Tung, Director
Violin & Viola
James Tung is an accomplished performer as well as a meticulous and dedicated educator. He is currently the Assistant Concertmaster of both the York Symphony Orchestra and Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra, the former Concertmaster of the Frederick Symphony Orchestra, and a frequent sub of the Harrisburg Symphony. His solo and chamber performances have graced stages at Merkin Hall in New York, NY, the Appell Center in York, PA, An Die Musik in Baltimore, MD, University of Denver, Messiah University, Mount St. Mary's University, Shippensburg University, and Frederick Community College.
Born and raised in NYC, James was privileged to study with Louise Behrend and Ann Setzer eventually attending the Eastman School of Music. James has inspired countless young musicians to achieve their personal best. Currently an adjunct professor at Messiah University and Mount St. Mary’s University, he founded the university’s first-ever string ensemble. His students frequently earn spots — often as principal players — in All-State, All-County, and prestigious youth orchestras such as MCYO and BSYO, with many receiving competitive scholarships.

Both an experienced performer and a nurturing, creative instructor, Alice Tung has been a member of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra for over 20 years and has served as Assistant Principal of the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra for more than 15. She regularly performs with ensembles throughout the Mid-Atlantic, including the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, and Virginia Chamber Orchestra. A passionate chamber musician, she has appeared at Merkin Hall in New York City, An Die Musik in Baltimore, the University of Denver, Mount St. Mary’s University, and Frederick Community College.
Alice holds a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music and a Master of Music from the Peabody Conservatory. A native of Frederick, she is deeply committed to teaching in her community. She serves on the faculty of McDaniel College and has previously taught at Frederick Community College and Carroll Community College. Her students have been members of prestigious youth ensembles such as All-County, MCYO, and PVYO, and many have continued their studies at distinguished institutions, including the Royal Scottish Academy of Music.
